Skagit River Sockeye Reports For Tuesday 16th June

Today was the opening of the lower Skagit sockeye fishery. The reports that we received was that the fishing was slow. We heard that there were three checked at Youngs Bar and three at Gardner through the early afternoon. Not hot by any means but at least there are a few fish! We did not have high hopes for todays opener as we normally do not see a good push of fish until the end of the month. The water was low but had a couple feet of visability with a good glacial green color.

There are fish already being trapped at the Baker and a handful of fish have been trucked to Baker Lake. Seeing fish this early in the season is a good sign for things to come. Hopefully the tribes do not fish as heavy as they did last year taking more than their share of fish.
