Chelan Fishing Report From Anton Jones 8/11/14

LAKE CHELAN AREA FISHING REPORT FOR 8/11/14

What’s hot is trolling for Mackinaw along the face of Manson Bay on Lake Chelan in the evening.  Also hot is the morning bite for Lake Trout on the “Bar” on Lake Chelan.

Pounding piles of fish in Manson Bay with Silver Horde’s Needlefish Squid rigs fronted with a Mack’s Lure Smile Blade and baited with a piece of Northern Pikeminnow has produced great numbers of fish in the evening.  Worden Lures Flatfish in either T4 or U20 have also picked up their fair share of fish.

Your fishing tip of the week is to remember swivels and simplicity to ease the frustration of fishing the deep water of Lake Chelan.  Yes, dodgers and flashers will work on Lake Chelan.  They also will create some of the most incredible tangles that you have ever seen.  A Mack’s Lure Smile Blade in front of your presentation will displace water and attract fish, but will not plane you into your other lines nearly as often.  Ditto with round downrigger balls.  Using ball bearing swivels will prevent line twist.  We use 2 in our squid rigs.  Tangles and extreme line twist are “devourers” of your valuable fishing time.

The kid’s tip of the week is to use distraction with those primary grade age boys to get them off of annoying repetition or other off track behaviors.  On the boat, my standard distraction is “look at the deer over there!”  Resets the computer and off we go…

Your safety tip of the week is to put an adult in charge of keeping all the kids clear when you are backing a boat up.  This applies at the ramp and at home in the driveway.  You are too busy watching your mirrors to keep track of the little ones.  If there are no other adults handy put the kids in a spot in front and keep them there.  Better safe than sorry.
