Lake Chelan Area Report From Anton Jones - Darrell & Dad's Family Guide Service July 20th 2014

LAKE CHELAN AREA FISHING REPORT FOR 7/20/14

What’s hot is trolling the tip of Wapato Point on Lake Chelan in the mid-morning for Mackinaw.  Also hot is the evening bite for Lake Trout along Manson Bay.  Finally, hot, is the early morning bite on Lake Chelan for Mackinaw either on the “Bar” on or up at Colyar Ledge on Lake Chelan.

Pounding piles of fish in Manson Bay with Silver Horde’s Needlefish Squid rigs fronted with a Mack’s Lure Smile Blade and baited with a piece of Northern Pikeminnow has produced great numbers of fish in the evenings. The “Bar” and Colyar Ledge are hot early in the morning.  Worden Lures T4 flatfish in GPLF has proven to be the “go to” lure for enticing those big fish.  However, again, Silver Horde’s Needlefish squid rigged with a Mack’s Lure Smile Blade has been our most consistent bite producer.

Your fishing tip of the week is a reminder to keep in mind the most important detail when fishing Lake Chelan for Mackinaw.  That is proximity to the bottom.  We try to fish 3 to 5 feet off the bottom all the time.  Dragging will foul things up.  For every ten feet you come off the bottom, you cut your bite rate in half.

The kid’s tip of the week is to really stay focused on sun and hot weather safety with the little kids.  Keep plenty of fluids available to keep them hydrated and sunscreen applied.  There is nothing funny about sun stroke, heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Your safety tip of the week is to really keep your head on a swivel during our busiest time of the year on Lake Chelan.  Avoiding collisions is everyone’s responsibility.
