Ballard Locks Sockeye

You might want to take the kids down to the Ballard Locks this weekend to observe the returning Lake Washington Sockeye. Though the numbers returning are well below record numbers this year, with just 24,174 counted as of the 10th, there should be good enough numbers to observe in windows of the fish ladder as well as see some making their way up the ladder. Pack a picnic lunch, grab some fish n chips or a burger to go in Ballard and eat it on the Locks ajoining grounds. It's also fun to watch the various pleasure and commercial boats coming and going through the locks. Perhaps you will see a harbour seal or sea lion taking advantage of the Sockeye below the locks.
