Baker Lake Sockeye Fishery

Though Baker Lake technically opens tomorrow for Sockeye the numbers that are actually in the Lake are quite dismal. In fact, the number that they have in the Baker River trap is dismal. I suppose that we will just have to wait and see if the fish arrive in the near future. As of 7/7 there have been just 335 transported to the lake and 1,757 counted at the trap.

Right now if you are thinking sockeye a trip to Eastern Washington and the Columbia River would be in line for more productivity. The number over Bonneville Dam is in fact over 100,000 more than they predicted (425,000) and they are still going over strong. To see another 100,000 or 150,000 or more would not be unreasonable!

So if you are wanting sockeye it would be best to take a road trip!
