Lots To Do On This Free Fishing Weekend

Not only is this the "Free Fsihing Weekend" but the weather here in the area is going to be fantastic. There are a great number of fisheries that are going well at the present. Here's just a few that may be of interest.

Great shad fishing below Bonneville Dam! The counts have been in the 75,000 to 90,000+ for the past week going through the dam. Fishermen are catching as many as 50 per person.

Last day of Halibut fishing is Saturday in Puget Sound and the Straits. Fishing has been good!  Weather and the tides are very cooperative making the fishing conditions pleasing to all.

Kokanee fishing has been good at Lake Stevens with lots of fish in the 13 - 16 inch range. From the folks that did well this week the 30 -35 foot range was most productive.

Ling Cod fishing here in Puget Sound and the Straits continues through the 15th of June. Though fishing has been a little tougher this season anglers willing to work at it are still getting fish in the legal slot limit of 26 -36 inches. Making for some great fish and chips.

Skykomish River steelhead and Chinook has been going on since last Sunday, with the steelhead fishing fantastic on Sunday and tapering off this week. There are still good numbers of steelhead in the system and many anglers are still doing well, though working a little harder at it. Chinook fishing has been extremely hit and miss at the present and should pick up in the next few weeks.

Trout fishing in the local lakes has still been quite good. The pressure has slowed since opening day over a month ago, but we are still getting great reports from many anglers hitting the local lakes. For a great place to take the kids for some shoreline bank fishing and a good picinic later give Padden Lake in Bellingham a try. Great place for a family outing and lots for everyone to do there.

Salmon fishing in Marine area 11 has been good since it opened last Sunday. Fishing has been fairly good with a few nice kings and blackmouth boated.

If you have just a little time to spare, you might want to give the Edmonds Pier a try for an odd salmon. We have seen  a number of nice Chinook caught off the pier the past few weeks with the largest being 22 pounds.

Theres are just a few of the things that you just might give a try over the weekend. There is losts more to do. Just stop by and we'll be glad to fill you in on things.

Have a "Great" weekend!
