March 11th Lake Chelan Area Report From Anton Jones

What’s hot is trolling the trench for Lake Trout on Lake Chelan. Roses Lake is now ice free and should provide some excellent rainbow trout fishing. I have been hearing reports that fishing at Rufus Woods for triploided rainbows is on the improve. On Chelan, the best fishing has shifted from the indeterminate flat to the trench. Worden Lures U20 Flatfish in purple glow and Silver Horde’s Kingfisher Lite spoons in Cookies and Cream were the most productive lures. Roses Lake is now ice free. If you are a bank angler, I would recommend fishing the public access area with a slip sinker rig and Pautzke’s Firebait in American Wildfire. If you are trolling, try a combination of Mack’s Lures mini Cha Cha Squidders and Wooly Bugger flies with an action disk by wiggle fin. Change your depths to find the fish. Rufus Woods has been improving. Try pulling Rapalas over humps to find those fish. Otherwise try still fishing with that Pautzke’s Firebait. Your fishing tip of the week is to plan your fishing and fish your plan. Our time on the water is way too precious to waste it in random activities. I have had people traveling here from far away with no idea where or how they were going to fish. Then, they are disappointed when they don’t catch anything… I felt like my pattern shifted this past reporting period. I had a tougher day as things that had worked, didn’t anymore. But, the next time out, I eliminated the areas that were unproductive previously and focused my efforts where we had caught fish. Voila, a much better catch rate and a pattern emerged. Do your research, make a three location plan, then fish that plan eliminating unproductive water. The kid’s tip of the week is aimed at those working guys. Plan those vacations around the kids needs and leave “your relaxing” for when they are sleeping. If you have school age kids and you work a lot, you do not get to interact with your kids much. That’s life. When you are on vacation, they will be starved for your attention. If you don’t give it to them, you’re going to have acting out issues and, you’ll be missing the best of life. When I have the little ones with me, I plan my personal time before they’re awake and after they go to sleep. The safety tip of the week is to watch out for the rock a bit downlake of the Mill Bay Boat Launch.
