Salmon Fishing Closing In Most Areas
Today, September 30th marks the last day to fish in many of the states marine areas. The following areas close after today:
Marine Area 1 - Ilwaco
Marine Area 2 - Westport - Ocean Shores
Marine Area 3 - LaPush
Marine Area 4 - Neah Bay
Marine Area 5 - Sekiu & Pillar Point
Marine Area 6 - East Juan de Fuca Strait
Marine Area 7 - San Juan Islands
Marine Area 9 - Admiralty Inlet
Marine Area 11 - Tacoma - Vashon Island
We still have a few areas to fish, just make sure to read the regulations well!
Marine Area 3 - La Push has a special late season fishery October 1st - October 13th. Make sure to read the regulations on this one as it has a fairly small quota on Chinook and Coho which when either is reached will close the fishery. It also has a relatively small area to fish.
Marine Area 8-1 - Deception Pass, Hope Island, and Skagit Bay will remain open for through October 31. The daily limit is 2, which only one may be a Coho (both wild or hatchery may be retained) and all Chinook must be released. This will give the bank fishermen a shot of continued fishing at Deception Pass and Ala Spit. For boat anglers, the area to the east of Deception Pass out of Coronet Bay can provide some action.
Marine Area 10 - Seattle/Bremerton will remain open through November 15th. The daly limit is 2, which only one may be a Coho (both wild or hatchery may be retained) and all Chinook must be released. This is the only viable fishery in the Seattle area.
Marine Area 12 - Hood Canal will be open from October 1st through December 31st. Daily limit is 4 of which only 2 may be Chinook. 22 inch min size. Wild Chinook must be released. Also from October 1st - October 15 all Chum must also be released.
Marine Area 13 - South Puget Sound wii be Open from October 1st - June 30th. Daily limit is 2, with a 22 in minimum on Chinook and all wild Chinook and Coho must be released.
So at least there are a few areas that will remain open until areas reopen for blackmouth after the fisrst of the year. Make sure to read those regulations as blackmouth will open a various times depending upon the area.
