Lake Chelan Report From 2/10/2016

This past Wednesday I had the pleasure of fishing with old time friend Jeff Witkowski of Darrel & Dad's Family Guide Service on Lake Chelan. Jeff has been wanting me to come over and sample the Winter Kokanee fishing for quite some time. After taunting me with photos of some outstanding catches this past month I finally made the decision to go. So Tuesday afternoon my friend Keith Yamaguchi and I made the trek over the mountains to Manson. After a good nights sleep we meet Jeff at the Mill Bay launch at dawn, quickly loaded our gear onto his boat and proceded up lake to where he had found fish earlier in the week. Upon arriving he quickly set out an assortment of tried and true Kokanee gear and very soon we were into fish. The next two hours we had a hard time keeping gear in the water. We caught a multitude of Kokanee, a west slope cutthroat and one of those very hard to come by landlocked Chinook. We continued to fish the remaider of the day and continued to catch fish, but a much slower pace than the morning.

Fishing with Jeff was a pleasure, not only was he extremely knowledgable of the fishery but a very personable individual. His North River boat was well outfitted and very comfortable. Jeff even had it rigged with a propane heater to keep the chill off and to warm your hands when needed. With the temperature in the 30's it was very pleasant to say the least.

In the course of the day Jeff also gave us the run down on the great lake trout fishing on Chelan as well as the various techniques of fishing for them. To say the least we found it quite intriguing. I will soon be giving him a call to set up another day of fishing.

If you are wanting a great outing, this is one I would highly reccomend. If you want more information on this fishery or to book a trip you can take a look at their website www.darrelland dads.com or give them a call at 1-866-360-1523.
