Lake Chelan Lake Trout And Kokanee

What’s hot is trolling the trench on Lake Chelan for Mackinaw. Also hot, is trolling Lake Chelan for jumbo Kokanee. Finally, Roses Lake is hot for rainbow trout fishing. Lake Trout continue to bite trolled presentations in the trench. Worden Lures U20 Flatfish in purple glow and Silver Horde’s Kingfisher Lite spoons in Chartreuse and Orange Splatterback, both in double glow were the most productive lures. On Chelan, the kokanee have moved from the edge of Mill Bay to various locations throughout the lower basin. You can find them getting closer to Lakeside as well as on the Bar. Most of these silver bullets are from 15 to 17 inches. They are absolute acrobats on light gear. Continue to work depths of 50 to 100 feet. Look at your sonar and troll a Mack’s Lures Double D dodger trailed by one of Mack’s Lures orange or pink Mini Cha Cha Squidders baited with some Pautzke’s Fire Corn just above the fish. Speeds of 1.1 to 1.4 mph will work best. Look around on the same contour once you find them. Depths in the 70’s have been the most productive for us. Roses Lake is producing easy limits of winter hold over rainbows. Fish from the bank with a slip sinker rig and Pautzke’s Firebait in American Wildfire or cast Worden Lures Roostertails. If you are trolling, try a combination of Mack’s Lures mini Cha Cha Squidders and Wooly Bugger flies with an action disk by wiggle fin. Your fishing tip of the week is a simple “how to” on getting into the action. First, search for the fish, eliminating unproductive water. Then, stay on the fish, changing presentations until you find one that works. Then, pound that presentation! The kid’s tip of the week is to use those pre-school imaginations as a catalyst for that “quality time” you hear so much about. When that kid sees fish in the bubble trail, don’t tell them they are mistaken. Ask, what the fish look like. Ask how many are there. This could start an interesting and imaginative discussion with that four or five year old. The safety tip of the week is to check and lube your trailer bearings. This is the time of the year when we see those broken down trailers on the side of the road… Anton Jones of Darrell & Dad's Family Guide Service www.darrellanddads.com or 509-687-0709
