Lake Chelan Fishing Reports - Anton Jones

What’s hot is trolling the trench and the face of Manson Bay for Lake Trout. Try fishing the Bar early and late for a shot at a big fish. Although not hot yet there are some Chinook and Sockeye being caught in the Upper Columbia. Manson Bay has been productive for Lakers in the late morning and early evening. The upper end of the trench has also produced some pretty good catches in the middle of the morning. Mack’s Lures Cha Cha Squidders as well as Silver Horde’s Kingfisher Lite spoons in Glow Splatterback colors worked best there. Try running U20 purple glow flatfish off of 16 ounce balls on the Bar early in the morning and late in the evening for your best shot at a big fish. Speeds around 1.4 mph will work best. Try depths from the 130’s to the 150’s. This is the time of the year to get those Hot Spot Flashers and Super Baits out to try for our Upper Columbia Chinook. Stuff the Super Baits with oil based tuna and dunk them in your favorite sauce. We like Pautzke’s Krill Juice. Work those off the mouth of the Okanogan River or below Wells Dam. Use those Mack’s Lures mini-cha cha Squidders for a shot at our Upper Columbia Sockeye. This fishery should improve as the season ripens. Your fishing tip of the week is an oldie but a goodie… Sharpen those hooks. A small triangular file will work just fine. The points should be sticky sharp, especially when you are fishing for those Chinook. Sometimes it’s a number of hours for just a couple of bites. It’s a minor tragedy to have one come unbuttoned because of a dull hook. The kid’s tip of the week is to balance persistence with flexibility when teaching a skill or disciplining a kid. It holds true in fishing as well a lot of other areas in life. It’s the art in child rearing. There are times when you need to push to teach persistence or merely that the universe does not revolve around them. Then there are times when you need to negotiate and give some to show they do matter and their thoughts are heard. It can be one of the most difficult judgment calls in parenting. Too much one way or the other can cause problems. The safety tip of the week is a repeat to remember hydration as we move through the hot times of the year. A bottle of water every hour or so will keep you from getting that nauseous / head achy feeling that we dread on a hot summer day.
