Lake Chelan Fishing Report - Anton Jones - March 23rd

LAKE CHELAN AREA FISHING REPORT FOR 3/24/14

What’s hot is trolling in the early morning above the Yacht Club or along the face of Manson Bay on Lake Chelan for nice numbers of Lakers.  Also hot is fishing around the Monument for Rainbow Trout.  I have been hearing mixed results from fishing on Roses Lake.

On Chelan, fish Colyar Ledge above the Yacht Club from the 240 foot contour out to 340 foot contour for best success early in the morning.  Also trolling the face of Manson Bay in depths of 180 to 265 feet has been very productive.  In both locations fish speeds of 1 to 1.5 mph as close to the bottom as you can.  Silver Horde’s Needlefish Squiddy’s rigged with a Mack’s Lures smile blade and baited with a triangle of Northern Pikeminnow has been the “go to” presentation.

Both trollers and bank anglers have been cleaning up on Rainbow trout near the Monument.  Fishing Mack’s lures mini-Cha Cha squid rigs behind their Double D dodger has been the ticket.

On Roses Lake, the reports have been inconsistent.  The successful anglers seem to be the ones bank fishing with Firebait on a slip sinker rig with a 30 inch leader

Your fishing tip of the week is to look at small things to prevent line twist when deepwater trolling on Lake Chelan.  First, consider upgrading your swivels to quality ball bearing swivels.  Then check your rig for flaws.  One thing that we found is that when you are trolling Silver Horde’s Ace Hi’s with a Mack’s Smile Blade up front, keep checking your tinsel to make sure it hasn’t plugged the hole in the Ace Hi or the beads.

The kid’s tip of the week is to get them out there to enjoy this spring fishing during spring break.  I could hardly sleep when I was a kid as spring break approached.  Spending evenings catching night crawlers and planning my first forays fishing kept me busy and distracted from my school work during most of March and April...

Your safety tip of the week is to watch out for the rock pile at Mill Bay.  With the lake turned around and coming up, the pile is almost submerged.  It is a boat buster!
