Add
A Little "Flash" To Your Offerings:
Enhance the look of
your favorite hoochie or coho fly by putting a small spinner blade
on the leader in front of it. Start by tying up your
favorite hoochie or fly then simply slide down two or three size 4
or 5 plastic or glass beads down
the leader. (These will act as a bearing surface for the
blade and clevis to rotate upon.) Then take one of the
"Newer" plastic clevis and slide it down the leader.
They are built in such a manner that you can put the blade on
later or change colors and styles of blades at will. Plastic
clevis have a distinct advantage as they will not cut or chaff up
the leader like the more common stamped or folded metal clevises
commonly used on spinners. Once this is done slide down one
additional bead and peg it in place with a toothpick a slight
distance (1/8- 1/4 inch) above the clevis as this will aid in
keeping the
clevis from being fouled by weeds etc. Now simply snap in
your blade (usually a size 2 or 3) into the clevis of whatever
finish you desire and you are ready to place it behind your
favorite flasher or dodger.
The addition of the
blade will not only add attraction with the spinning and flashing
blade but also send out a little vibration as it rotates in front
of your lure.
For those of you that have had the chance of
"bucktailing" for surface feeding coho you will find
that the addition of a blade to your fly will increase production,
not only will it provide more flash but also create more surface
disturbance drawing more attraction to your offering.
Good Fishing
